Leigh Purtill is a ballet instructor, choreographer and coach. She began her teaching career in Boston and Connecticut, instructing students of all levels and ages at Hartford Ballet and for Judyth Parks in Connecticut, for Jeannette Neill Dance Studio in Boston and at her own ballet studio, SRO Dance, in Connecticut.
She trained with Kathryn Anderson and Margot Parsons in Boston, with Sara Neece and Giada Ferrone in New York, as well as the Hartford Ballet, the New Haven Ballet, the Connecticut Concert Ballet and with acclaimed modern dancer Ernestine Stodelle. She has performed contemporary and classical ballets with various artists and companies on both coasts and her choreography has won awards at competition.
In 2008, Leigh created the Leigh Purtill Ballet Company, aiming to make ballet more accessible and inclusive as an art form. With projects such as Zombie Ballet: A Sweet Sorrow and recent appearances in The Gong Show, DAA is proud to have Leigh's progressive take on ballet happening every Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 pm in Studio D and Thursdays 7 to 8:30 pm in Studio A.
