CLASS SCHEDULE

Okima Founder of Na Kapaku Hula Halau Kula Nui ‘O Kaleponi, studied with Kumu Ho’ o ulu Cambra of Kamehameha Schools and the University of Hawaii.

Some time ago Okima promised her family in Hawaii that she would do her part to keep the hula and Hawaiian culture alive. Okima has fulfilled this promised by sharing hula, the heartbeat of the Hawaiian people, which is a beautiful art form of ancient and modern dance weaving sacred history, language and song.

As a teenager, Okima performed in Los Angeles and Hollywood under the direction of the famous entertainer, Cissylani Ceballos. As and adult, Okima choreographed the LA stage production of South Pacific, taught master workshop classes, and performed for the Olympic 1984 Arts Festival.

Okima also worked in the inner city schools, teaching Computers with IBM, who gave backing and support, which was instrumental in facilitating the partnership between ALULIKE and IBM. Also IBM donated, shipped equipment and teaching materials to the ALULIKE training site in Hawaii, to help prepare Hawaiian students for the computer world.

Under Okima’s direction, Na Kapaku Hula Halau Kula Nui ‘O Kaleponi has performed extensively. Just to name a few, For example, The John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, Armstrong Theatre, Annual Lotus Festivals, Hawaiian Festivals, Hilton Hotels, Regency Beverly Wilshire Hotel, and for Celebrities and Government Officials.
